OK, so its been AWHILE since I posted again! All my hobbies/jobs have piled up on me lately and have barely had time to do that whole promoting myself thing! I have been working on paintings off and on for my upcoming show at the Brush Gallery, which is going to be called “Fragile: Our Precious World.” It’s all about our environment and on how we affect the world. Look out for a post about that soon, trying to get those paintings finished!
I took on a few design projects the last 4-5 months because I needed some more creative outlets besides painting. Let’s just say that what I do at my day job is not usually creative, and I also can’t show anything I do at work in my portfolio, so staying relevant is important. I thought I spread them out enough but the deadlines all piled up at the same time, along with all my personal life things! I try not to do this to myself if I can, because spreading myself too thin makes it super hard for me to function. I am sure many of you understand!
OK, rant over! I mostly wanted to post about some of these projects, because they are rather cool and I liked the outcome of most. And I am a designer too not just a painter!
First project I took on late last year, but didn’t receive all the materials until the last few months. By the way, it is a 60 page book, so that ate up MOST of my spring! I loved how it came out, but boy was it a beast. It is the 100th anniversary book for the Reading Community Singers of Reading, MA. I am a part of this group, so I thought it would be enjoyable to take on. I immediately wanted to design this book in the Art Deco style, since that was the look in the 1920s, which got me excited because I love the feeling of that genre. Working with a committee of researchers and writers was a bigger challenge than I realized, so things got delayed, hiccups, etc. But it is DONE now! Finding the right printer was also a big task that I knew was going to be tough and it was. See below for a few sample spreads of the book. Go to www.readingcommunitysingers.org for some great information about this group. Also, the book will be available for sale! They are $30 each.
Another project I did get paid for was a logo for Sleep Systems, a company that a friend started and is patenting ear buds to help people with sleep apnea, instead of those crazy CPAP machines. She needed help designing a logo for the actual ear buds themselves, called “Lifeguard.” She already had the website and logo of her company designed, so I had to mesh with that look so it was pretty smooth. See her website here: https://sleepsystems-llc.com/. I came up with many revisions for her to choose from, I actually really enjoyed this project! See samples of my iterations and also the final logo below.
And last but not least is the postcard and poster for the Studio Artists Annual Summer Show! This was a huge headache only because no artist months before has anything finished yet, so I had to do my best to come up with an image that would stand out but also read easily. It was requested of me to have “FRAGILE” overlaid on top of “Our Precious World.” I went through SO many iterations and ideas of how to make this work so it took me quite awhile! Most of my ideas were duds, and that is always tough to push forward when that happens. I literally had to lock myself up a whole weekend to get this done!
And here is the grand reveal….please put this in your calendars so you can come support my painting! Because that is REALLY what I love to do :)
